E.D. has submitted the above cards for interpretation. The first three cards are the “heart” of the reading and are read as a unit. Then, the fourth card is drawn and read as a summary or clarifier. Since two out of the first three cards are cups, it is safe to say that this reading focuses on feelings, emotions, relationships, and psychic abilities.
The spotlight has been on the three of cups, which advises, “Take time out to celebrate.” This card usually appears for those who are constantly driving themselves to move onto the next item on their “to-do” list. It encourages the seeker to stop and take some time to look back on the past weeks, months, and year to see and acknowledge the growth and progress that has been achieved. For the strongly self-motivated, this may mean focusing on where they were a year ago and comparing it to where they are now. The value of including others in the celebration makes it easier for others to include the seeker in their own celebrations instead of waiting until the whole list is cleared.
The spotlight is now on the ten of cups, which asks the seeker to use some discernment in choosing those with whom (s)he celebrates, those who are treated like family. It is wise to limit the number of people with whom the seeker can share an intimate relationship. Only those who can genuinely and joyously be happy for the seeker’s achievements are to be considered.
The spotlight is moving toward Death, which advises letting the old form die so that the new one can take its place. This is NOT a card of the seeker’s actual death, but the wisdom of letting go of the form, which has outlived its purpose. The new day that is represented on the right side of the card by the rising sun is confirmation that a new form is already in place, and the seeker would be well-served in letting the old way die so the new form can be embraced and utilized.
The summary card is the nine of swords, sometimes called the “nightmare card.” Evidently, the seeker has been losing sleep recently trying to figure out what her/his next step should be. The nightmare results from the seeker believing that (s)he must do something RIGHT NOW; therefore, the advice is to re-evaluate the timing on the whole situation. E.D., this is why you are being told to stop and celebrate, choose those with whom you want to party, and let go of the old way of doing things.
